Terra Mia
Calabria
✻
Just like the rest of Italy, Calabrians love their pasta, bread and most other food generally associated with what you would think to be “Italian”. But just like you find a different dialect of Italian everywhere you go, in Calabria you will find a different kind of food culture as well . At Casa Mia we offer some specialties not found in other Italian restaurants. Take a look at our dinner menu and check out what's different.
Calabria , the land of eggplants, tomatoes and the pepperoncino

Calabria has perfect growing conditions for eggplants and tomatoes and
both are used widely in local dishes. Also in Calabria almost no dish is
made without the pepperoncino. Red pepperoncini can be eaten whole,
ground, fresh or dried and is widely consumed throughout the
area. Most of the cuisine of Calabria is heavily influenced by the
Mediterranean and is often spicy.
Pasta
Pasta in Calabria is hearty and varied with some famous pastas being Pasta Piena and M’parretatti (similar to fusilli). In Calabria pasta dough is made without egg using only flour and wheat
Meat + Fish
Food preservation is big in Calabria cured meats especially. Sopresatta, Capicolla , N’Duja are made and preserved until just right. The pig is an important animal to calabrese dishes and in most cases any part of the pig can be used for consumption. Besides the pig other prominent meats are goat and lamb which are also left with nothing to waste.
Surrounded by the sea, Calabresi enjoy tuna, swordfish, anchovies and sardines, as well as octopus, clams, and mussels. Sea food in pasta and on pizza is popular throughout the region like most of Italy but when mixed with the famous calabrese pepperoncino is when the dish becomes local.
When you visit Casa Mia
When visiting Casa Mia you get to taste dishes from other regions of Italy as well . We will be featuring these other regions of Italy in our ” Region of the Month ” dinners.
